Inaugural "Mallow Ukulele Weekend "is running on the 7/8/9 March in Mallow . This event is being run by the "Highly Strung Ukulele Group of Mallow . This Ukulele group was formed only 1 year ago and now has 30 active playing members . They meet at least once a week to play music and enjoy each others company. They had their first public appearance in July at last years Mallow Arts Festival. This went done very well ann it consisted of other groups travelling from all over Munster to attend. There was over 75 Ukulele players at this Monster Jam in O' Keeffes pub .
The weekend kicks off with a Welcoming gig in O 'Keeffes Pub at 8pm on Friday the 7th March . We then move to the Hibernian hotel for Saturday .
Saturday start with a Flash Mob event at 12 mid day , a mob of Ukulele players will pop up somewhere in the town and play for approx. 30 minutes.
Back to the HiB for 2pm, where there will be over 8 different workshops for the visitors . This is followed by a Ukulele Monster Jam when we hope to have 110 ukulele players singing and playing together in a Monster Jamming session. We also expect non ukulele players to attend as it will be a night of Fun and singing.
We have two local Ukulele stars - Andrew Desmond a Ukulele teacher in Cork and well known for his teaching and gigging in Cork. The other guest, Mark Mangan, is from Dublin , where he has been teaching full time for the last 10 years. Mark has also been the Musical Director to the Ukulele Tuesdays for over 9 years . Mark is recognised as a true master of the Ukulele. The concert starts at 7.30pm.
There are 3 more workshops in the Hibernian hotel on Sunday morning from 9.30am .
We then have a Free Beginners class for every one that wants to try their hand at the Ukulele at 12.30 in the Ballroom in the Hibernian hotel. Ukuleles will be supplied so a great way to start you musical journey.
Our Final event is our farewell gig in O'Keeffes Bar at 2pm .
